What is Arthritis?

Arthritis affects over 54 million Americans and is a leading cause of disability. Although it can affect any joint it commonly appears first in the feet. Arthritis is the inflammation and

swelling of the cartilage and lining of the joints. It's most common symptoms are morning stiffness, swelling, and pain. There are greater than 100 types of arthritis. Some forms are hereditary and others can be associated with joint injuries, infections or bowel disease. While most forms of arthritis cannot be cured they can be controlled so early detection and treatment are key. Arthritic pain in your feet can cause you to walk differently. This can lead to other problems such as knee, hip and back pain. If you experience persistent foot pain see your podiatrist.
